My love of the North started early.  My parents owned a cottage (water access only) in Haliburton where I spent the entire summer.  I grew to love the forest as much as the lake, and spent many hours exploring.  Though from Toronto, and after graduating high school in Uxbridge, I completed a Forest Technician course at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie.

My career went directions I never dreamt it would go.  I started out on a contract basis with the Ministry of Natural Resources performing timber cruising (my all time favourite forestry job), fire fighting and creel census.  Next moved onto large Sawmills, (Weyerhauser, Weldwood, and Lajambe), with timber cruising, cut and skid gang management, cut control, log scaling/lumber grading, to operating skidders and managing sawmills.

With changes to family circumstances, we ended up moving to Niagara, purchasing and operating a horse stable and tack shop we named Willow Run Farm.  With my forestry background I joined up with Hardwood Lumber wholesalers (Robert Bury, Goodfellow, and Cherry Forest Products), servicing clients from Windsor to Bracebridge to Kingston who manufactured furniture, moldings, doors, panels, and even coffins and hockey sticks.  Never thinking I'd ever be in sales, I actually enjoyed servicing clients with a product I knew "from the forest to the customer" throughout the years.

My passion for the North never left me, and after another change and a move to Waterloo, we purchased a cottage on the South River (45 minutes north of Huntsville) with the desire to move to there full time in the near future.  Eight years later the dream happened, moved into the cottage!  At that point I started my new career with Coldwell Banker Thompson Real Estate Brokerage.

Real Estate was a natural transition.  I have a feel for the lay of land and forest type on acreage and cottage lots, experience from my early forestry days.  I understand and enjoy the quality of woodworking in homes I preview, such as hardwood flooring, cabinet doors and moldings with material used from all the various customers I called on.  As well, I have a desire for quality and honest service for my seller/buyer clients!  I believe in relationships, providing the same service I did for my hardwood lumber clients over the many years.

Almaguin Highlands is truly one of the most beautiful areas of Ontario, and now having new state of the art highways throughout, makes it accessible to the Toronto area.  I'd love to show you places in this magnificent area.  Jim
